In Memory

Scott Simon (Simon)

Scott Simon, who dedicated 52 years playing the piano for doo-wop group Sha Na Na, died Thursday in Ojai, California, at the age of 75 after a long battle with sinus cancer, his daughter Nina Simon announced.

Nina shared the news on Thursday in a social media post. “My dad was a rock star. Literally. A member of Sha Na Na for over 50 years. He loved early morning diners and late nights onstage. But he loved his girls most of all,” she wrote in a caption with photos of her father and their family.

I am forever grateful for our SW class of '66, thankful for the memories, and how those years helped me to develop into an adult. The quality of our education, our peers, and lasting friendshipes cannot be over stated. Scott was my oldest friend, beginning at Beth Shalom Synagogue in nursery school. Scott was the biggest star from our class, without question, and he could have easily become distant and forgetting of his SW years with the fame he achieved.  From talking to others and from my own experience seeing Scott every 10 years or so since our graduation, I can say that he was always humble, always a friend. As I have aged and family and friends who have meant so much to me have passed away, I have found that they are very much alive in my memories, and Scott is certainly one of those special people in my life. His was certainly a life well lived, always a gentleman and a scholar.
