I'm saddened to hear that Larry Koenigsdorf has passed away. He lived two houses east of us on 67th Street for the five years that I was in the neighborhood. He was fairly quiet, but he always had a greeting for me.
Larry was (as was I) part of the 67th Street Club, a loose group of the children who lived up and down that first block east of Main Street. Like me, he "aged out" when we started at Southwest.
I admired him for staying involved with Boy Scouts, especially after I dropped out because of work in the Southwest library.
It saddens me to hear of Larry's passing. He was my very first friend after our move to KC when I was 4 years old. We lived then on 34th street between Paseo and Virginia. He had all these neat toys that I had never seen before. We started boy scouts together, but he obviously out-merited me. A few years later, we both moved south but mostly lost touch after junior high (Bingham). It's still jarring to face this reality as we grow older. May Larry's memory be for a blessing.
Larry was one of the kindest person I knew. We lived near each other and spent time together during our childhood. His parents were friends with my mother as well. When he was in scouts , I was in Girl Scouts as well. He was a quiet soul and I am so sorry o lost track of him after high school. I send condolscences to his family and will think of the wonderful memories we had together.
