Diane L. Davis Diane Louise Davis, 70, a Kansas City native, recently passed away in Topeka, KS after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Judge Lou and Frances Baker Davis. She is survived by sisters Harriett Davis Cortez of New Orleans and Roberta Davis Rosen (Larry) of Leawood, KS; nephews Alex Cortez of Boston, Ben Rosen (Lisa) of Miami, John Rosen (Kristin)and niece Elizabeth Rosen Chopp (Isaac). She graduated from the U of Mo. Columbia and received a Masters of Social Work from Jane Addams College, at the University of Illinois, Chicago. She lived in Chicago for many years. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice . "Deedee" was sitting near me in Miss Fling's french class when news of JFK's assassination came over the school loudspeaker . I remember feeling glad she was one of the people sitting near me. I didn't know her well, yet she always seemed to me so steady and compassionate, and I found that in her eyes amidst the shock.

So sad to hear that Diane ( Dee Dee) had passed away, much the same way it feels each and every time we lose another classmate. Jeanine’s reflection of having Dee Dee with her to comfort her when the awful news of the JFK assassination was announced at Southwest is how I like to remember her as well!

As we lose a classmate, I am continually grateful of those special years at Southwest High and our wonderful classmates. Thank you Jeanine for the reminder of Miss Fling’s class. I was in the same class with David Bean, Harry Poindexter and Diane. I remember walking out of that classroom on that day of the presidents death.
Miss Fling would walk around that room with wooden floors, on her tiptoes so the heels were not too noisy. I think she always wore a pearl necklace.
All these memories to be recalled as we celebrate a sweet life that will be sorely missed.

I can still see her corkscrew ponytail and her infectious smile. I moved to Chicago in 1983 and contacted DeDe just before our next reunion. She came over and met my family. I encouraged her to come to the reunion, which she did. Sadly, that was the last time I saw her. I just grabbed my Sachem (don't ask why I have it close at hand) and found her picture with that great smile. That's how I will remember her, smiling!

I am so sorry to hear this. I remember DeeDee as a warm lovely young woman with a kind word for everyone. She looked exactly like Geraldine Chaplin in Dr. Zhivago. I am sorry she had any trouble in her life.
