Chuck Eddy VIEW PROFILE

Chuck Eddy

KANSAS CITY SOUTHLAND MOURNS FORMER COUNCILMAN CHUCK EDDY!!! Appropos for #TBT, a longtime politico and Renaissance man has taken his final bow. Social media friends report the former politico passed away peacefully at 7:20am. Mr. Eddy was also a musician, chiropractor and historian. For those who don't remember him, a recent Channel 9 profile offered a nice review of his career: Larry Moore salutes the efforts of former Kansas City councilman Chuck Eddy, who has helped to keep the city's history alive. Chuck Eddy was an old school mover and shaker who was in the running for mayor at one point. On this blog his critics taunted him ruthlessly but TKC met him a few times and he seemed to take it all in stride. While we may not have agreed with him much politically, there's no denying his lifelong dedication to Kansas City and his community. R.I.P. Chuck.

Apologies that this info is 6 months late.  Chuck passed last fall.

Here's a link (hopefully) to his obituary

I'm not surprised he was a successful and well-liked (apparently even by those who disagreed with him politically as the comment above described).  He was always  upbeat and friendly.

I am shocked and saddened by Chuck's passing.   We have been friends since grade school at Border Star.  He was always a happy, friendly, and caring person...as young grade schooler, high schooler, and certainly, as an adult.  Chuck threw himself into everything that he did.  As a drummer, physician, selfless public servant, and friend.  He was a true gentleman.  He will be missed by all that knew him.  Sad day, Mike Rainen

I am sorry to hear of the family's loss. Chuck was a warm, community kind of guy; I can believe he was a councilman. The Eddy family feels like it has been the same way. My good wishes to you, in these chaotic times, for your sense of well being..

Chuck was a friend and we go back to Border Star. In 7th grade we had a little band called The Continentals consisiting of Chuck (drums), Dick Hubbard (trumpet), Bill Bauer (trombone) and me on clarinet. I think David Bean was also involved at some time.  We would practice (if that's what you wanted to call it) in Chuck's basement. I remember our group playing in the 7th grade talent show at Border Star (I think it was When the Saint's Go Marching In) and Janette and Jeanine Brown won hands down with their singing Greensleaves of Summer.  One time our little group played a few tunes at one of the dances in the gym. I also remember Chuck getting sheet music for the tune "Java" from his Dad's restaurant-Eddy''s- they played live music there. We had fun getting goofy on that tune.

Chuck played a drum duet in our annual Southwest talent show. He was a fine drummer.

We stayed friends through high school.

So sorry to for the loss of one of our classmates. Rest in peace Chuck.

I just found about about Chuck's death...it set me back in my chair.  Check and I along with Bruce Beale were drumming buddies...battle of the drums took place several times at the talent shows...as my family moved around the country...we would stay in touch...I saw him a few times while visitjng KC as he played with several different bands.

RIP and Rock On Chuck!

I was saddened to learn of Chuck Eddy’s death!   While  I didn’t know him well, I do remember him from Border Star and, of course, Southwest, he always struck me as a gregarious and happy person - with a happy and friendly smile on his face .  That’s how I wish to remember him!

The last time I saw Chuck was at the Nelson Art Gallery. There he was - still at it - playing drums in a band during one of the gallery's Rozzelle Court evening dinners. We had a conversation during the break and it was fun to talk about Border Star, growing up together and Eddy’s - a real nightclub on 13th & Baltimore. I will always think of him as a really nice, nice person who had the same beautiful eyes and great big smile as an adult as he did as a little boy.

I too was unaware of Chuck's passing. Last time I saw Bill Cater a few years ago we reminisced about our 'Band', The Continentals.  Having a keener memory than I, Bill told of the mischief we indulged in while I remembered the food his mom brought down to us hooligans.  Up to that point the most sophisticated snack I ever had was bacon wrapped vienna sausage.  Never focusing on what our friends parents did for a living, I was, and am to this day, enamored with her treats with exotic names.  I will remember Chuck from that small window of interaction back at Border Star with affection.  Thanks Chuck, may you rest in peace.
